One of the best things about long, holiday weekends is all of that
unstructured, uncommitted time. This past holiday I finally got
around to tackling my black hole of a craft room closet.
Time to Purge!!!!!!
The first rule of art/craft/hobby "stuff" is that it's way too easy
over buy and under use. Thus, my black hole of a supply
closet. The second rule of such stuff is that it's harder to
dispose of than regular household goods. You can't just
send these items to the Salvation Army or to Goodwill. Such
organizations don't know what some of these supplies are.
It's much better to send them to people and organizations
who know what they are and how to use them.
Purging excess paper and projects
And, thanks to the Internet I found a great place to
send my extra and no longer used supplies. Camp to Belong
is a non-profit organization that seeks to reunite "brothers
and sisters placed in separate foster, adoptive or kinship
homes through Summer Camps" where a big part of
the program is creating scrapbook memories
of these summer reunions.
Testing markers and pens.
Now, the purging, packing and shipping really began in earnest.
I managed to go through most of the closet and cupboards, shipping
nine boxes to Camp to Belong. There's still more to purge and ship
but at least I have a good jump on the project.
