Mayan Healing

Last Saturday I participated in another fun & informative Gaia Circle event. We met at Cathy Steed's Dreamcatcher Retreat Center just outside of Waco.  The gorgeous spring weather made for a perfect outing.

Cathy explaining the use of herbs &
flowers for Spiritual Bathing.

First, we gathered flowers & herbs for
a traditional Mayan Spiritual Bath,
letting them steep in water in the
sunlight while we went inside for
Cathy's presentation on
Mayan Healing techniques.

Cathy talked about her training in Belize with Dr. Rosita Arvigo.  She discussed the use of Mayan Abdominal Massage, Rainforest Herbal Remedies, Castor Oil Packs, and Spiritual Bathing.  Abdominal Massage is used not only for feminine issues but also for promoting the general health of all interior organs.  She mentioned that the torso is the one part of the body that's never touched in a typical massage.

Cathy treated us to several dishes from Rosita's book, Food of the Gods: Vegetarian Cooking in Belize and served Jungle Juice, a traditional rainforest herbal beverage.  While enjoying our meal, she went on to explain the use of Castor Oil Packs for abdominal problems, pain (in any area of the body), and to promote increased circulation in the affected area.  She taught us how to prepare and use the packs.

We finished the afternoon by dousing ourselves with our infused flowers & herbs in a delightful Spiritual Bath.
Rosita Arvigo's book discusses the use of Spiritual Bathing
in cultures and traditions from around the world.

The sign outside of Cathy's studio says it all.

We certainly felt welcome and those of us who didn't know each other beforehand felt like friends by the end of the afternoon.

Thanks for posting this Brenda. It looked great! I hated to miss Gaia Circle, but we had bought tickets for an event in Dallas before Gaia was scheduled.

The event was wonderful, and I'm grateful to have been a part of the special day/event. Brenda, you captured well the essence of the day. Cathy did a fabulous job, and all the ladies were a joy to be with. Thanks for posting this!
